Welcome to Smash That Camera!
A bit of backstory...
Smash that Camera is Will Beckett, a Nova Scotia-born filmmaker, photographer, website/graphics designer, and writer now based in Rothesay, New Brunswick. A graduate of the University of King’s College School of Journalism (BJh, 1996), Will brings a documentarian approach to his film and photography work. His first web series, Arts on PEI (2011-2012), highlighted lesser-known aspects of PEI’s arts scene. His subsequent four-part documentary series, Prehistoric PEI (co-produced by the National Film Board of Canada), represents the culmination of three years of hard work and is currently making the rounds of the film festival circuit in Atlantic Canada.
Will has also worked as a crew member in a variety of film and television productions. These include CTV’s The Amazing Race Canada (Seasons Two and Six) and CBC’s The Songs of Gene MacLellan TV special and The Stats of Life (Season One). He also appeared as an actor in the short film The Invasion of the Horrible Alien Brain Monsters from Outer Space by PEI filmmaker / prosthetics designer Fox Henderson and the feature film Kooperman by Island filmmakers Jason Rogerson and Harmony Wagner.
Will is an avid hiker, snowshoer and snorkeler in his spare time. He also curates a respectable private collection of classic, and cult-favorite, movies from around the world, along with books covering the history of photography from its earliest beginnings to the present day.
